2005 Voter Survey

A statewide poll of 500 voters revealed that support of the WASL
standards and the new graduation requirements is strong. Eighty percent
of our citizens support increased academic expectations of students.
Seventy percent want graduation requirements to include an exit exam,
and their support rises when they learn students will have several
opportunities to take the test and that extra options exist for special
education students. There is a universal belief that every student must
demonstrate basic skills in reading, writing and math to graduate, and
that we have a responsibility to help ALL children gain these skills,
regardless of their income or ethnicity.
