I always smile when something good comes to my old neck of the woods, Tacoma, Wash. And I couldn’t be happier to see that, next week, Washington’s underdog city will be getting something extra special: their very own College Success Foundation (CSF).
For the past 10 years, across the state, CSF has been working to provide poor and minority students the educational and financial incentives necessary for them to attend the college of their choice. In Tacoma, they will establish a district-based model and office devoted to working directly with middle and high schools to ensure all local students have the means and support to graduate and succeed in the next step of their education.
TCSF will offer a range of programs to Tacoma students. Programs include:
- Early outreach in grades 7 – 8 through the College Bound Scholarship Program
- Early outreach in grades 7 – 10 through the HERO program
- College Advising and Mentoring in grades 11-12
Each of these programs has been proven effective in Washington and the work of TCSF looks to be hugely promising. I can’t wait to see the results of their efforts in Tacoma over the next few years.
So if you’re in the southend next Monday, Dec. 7 and would like to learn more about TCSF, there will be a presentation at Lincoln High School (701 S. 37th St. in Tacoma.) in the library from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. Immediately following, there will be a reception and open house from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the offices of the Tacoma College Success Foundation, located at 950 Pacific Ave, Suite 1250, in Tacoma.
