State PTSA Exec. Director Resigns

For ongoing health reasons, I hear, from the chatter I pick up as a PTSA member in Auburn.

Here is the memo that Linda Hanson sent out yesterday. It will be more widely distributed today.

Re:      WSPTA Executive Director Resigns

From:  WSPTA President, Linda Hanson

Date:   April 11, 2007

The WSPTA Board of Directors has accepted the resignation of Jean Carpenter, Executive Director, with regret. In her letter of resignation Jean writes, “I want to thank the Washington State PTA for the wonderful opportunities I have been given while Executive Director for these past seven years…All of these accomplishments would never have occurred without the support of the officers, directors, and members of the Washington State PTA”. Jean also thanks all our education and community partners for their contributions of funding, in kind donations and volunteer time. Jean continues with “Of course we have the best staff – a staff which has been like a second family to me”.

Washington State PTA’s achievements during Jean’s tenure include the publication of the Family Involvement Guide, Parent to Parent presentation and resources, and Grade Level Expectations Brochures to enable parents to better understand the academic standards, and much more.

Jean wishes “the association well in achieving our mission...” and asked us all to remember, “To the world we may be one person, but to one person you may be the world”.

Washington State PTA, the Board of Directors, and the staff thank Jean for all her contributions over the years – by sharing her many gifts the association has continued to be a strong advocate for kids and families. We all wish her continued success and much happiness in her future endeavors.

The WSPTA Board of Directors is holding a special meeting this weekend to begin making plans for the future. As always, we will keep you informed of our plans as they develop.

Be assured, this association stands strong. Please accept my heartfelt thanks for the dedication and passion of everyone involved in advocating for children – our members, education and community partners, staff and the board of directors. By continuing to work together we are a strong voice for every child’s success.

Thank you,

Linda Hanson

WSPTA President
