This one from the Vancouver Columbian. They rap the gov. on the knuckles a bit for delaying the math and science WASL for five years. And they applaud her for sticking to her guns on reading and writing despite a ridiculous last-minute attempt to derail those tests as well.

At the State Board of Education today, the WASL didn't come up, per se, but the idea of college and work readiness did. Be it redefining the state's graduation requirements (report due out in December) or declaring in a resolution that the state board supports both work and college readiness(not quite sure why they had to do this, does anyone think that they don't?) the state board members are realizing that students need  a diploma that means something.

It might mean that the kids are going into technical college, a trade, a two-year program or a four-year college and beyond. But the board members are realizing that the diploma must mean that the students will be able to do the work once they leave high school. Now, that claim can't be made.
