One Baltimore School Struggles to Get Tests Scores Up

This is an interesting NPR piece on a Baltimore high school's effort to raise test scores. There are voices on both sides of the debate here. Some say that the method this high school is using (pulling kids out of class to study for the Maryland test) is wrong, while others are saying that the test is in fact, too easy, and the kids should be able to pass it without extra help.
I like the quote at the end of this four-minute piece, where the principal of Northwestern High School says that they are pushing hard because they want the kids to succeed once they leave high school.
I'd be interested to hear from other schools. What do they do during WASL week, for example. Does your school make a big deal out of it, or not?
