Good things happen every day in classrooms, districts and
communities in Washington state
and around the country. But it can sometimes go
unnoticed. We’d like to change that! From now on, every Thursday, we
at the Partnership will tip our hats to an individual, a group, a school
district, policymaker—anyone who does something that’s just great in
education. After all, every effort made to help students learn and
grow is worth some praise. We hope you’ll join us in applauding these
individuals and giving them a hardy “Hats off!”
This week:
Congratulations to the seven
Washington schools that earned the distinction of being among the nation’s
top high schools, according to the U.S. News and
World Report.
The International Community
School in Kirkland
and Newport High
School in Bellevue
both ranked in the nation’s top 100 high schools and earned “gold
metals.” Coming in with silvers (ranked in the top 500),
were Bainbridge High School, Issaquah High School, Mercer Island High
School and Seattle’s Roosevelt and Garfield high schools.
All schools also ranked high on the U.S. News and World
Report’s “college readiness” index, which measures the students’ mastery and
preparedness for college course-material.
Hats off to the students, teachers and administrators of
these schools for their hard work, vision and success!
