Hats off to Lake Chelan High School!

Hats off!

This week we tip our hats to Lake Chelan High School for being nominated as a Department of Education Blue Ribbon School!

According to the Wenatchee World, Chelan is one of seven Washington schools to be nominated for the award, which was created with the No Child Left Behind Act to honor schools that produce top academic scores or dramatic improvement.

Chelan was nominated because of dramatic improvement on the WASL. Three years ago, 42 percent passed WASL math, 54 percent passed the writing test and 63 percent the reading test. Incredibly, this year more than 70 percent passed math, nearly 70 percent passed writing and about 88 percent passed reading.

“Looking at the criteria and what’s happening in assessment, I think we have a good chance,” Principal Barry DePaoli said. “I’m doing my best work to write the best application I can because I owe this to the staff.”

Hats off to the students and teachers of Lake Chelan High School for their hard work and dedication—we certainly hope it is further recognized!

We want to tip our hats to the other six Washington schools nominated for the Blue Ribbon award, too, so if yours was nominated, give us a shout!
