I wish members of both houses could have been at a reception we had last night at the state capitol for Mike Cohen, president of Achieve, a Washington DC-based ed advocacy group. But more importantly, I wish they all could have spoken to Ronald Peiffer, deputy state superintendent of the Maryland State Department of Education.
Their legislature is busy banging their graduation tests around the block too. It kicks in two years from now, and not enough kids are passing the tests, Peiffer told me. This story in the Baltimore Sun gives an overview. The test? Exit exams the state has developed over the last decade. Sound familiar?
