Meet Academic Credit Requirements

The State Board of Education requires that all Washington students earn a minimum of 19 credits. For a detailed list of the state credits required by area of study, view this table.

School districts have the authority to set requirements above the state minimums, and many do. Many districts set higher minimum course credit requirements (e.g. 20-22 credits) and require that students do a certain number of hours of community service work. To ensure your child meets all of the state and local graduation requirements, check with your school or district.

The SBE recently released a database of graduation credit requirements for each of the 246 districts with high schools. You can access this useful tool in excel and pdf formats.
